Ikea unveils a new store concept which boosts biodiversity of the local area
What: Ikea's new store concept is all about local climate, biodiversity and socialization.
Why it is important: Ikea is testing a great number of store concepts, which we have reported systematically. They are using their own stores as a real time innovation laboratories. This concept is interesting in terms of insertion in the local tissue of Vienna.
Ikea has opened a new store in Vienna which structure, like a bookshelf, creates a series of terraces and locations for plans and insects. 160 trees are positioned across the structure and on the roof top terrace, and the building is expected to generate a perceptible impact on the microclimate around the store, up to 1.5°C in summer.
There is no car park, Ikea offers free e-truck and e-bike delivery in the local area, and the two top floors are dedicated to a Joe&Joe hostel.
