What: Marni has inaugurated a brand new 2-storey flagship store on via Montenapoleone in Milan.

Why it is important: The interior design, created by Marni's creative director Francesco Risso and the brand's in-house design team, introduces entirely new retail design codes. Still, the new concept uses the sinuous metal clothing racks which have been a signature feature of most of Marni's stores for many years.

The store is designed to be more than just a retail space, and fully in line with the brand's quirky approach to fashion, a creative hub that embraces other disciplines as well. The chosen aesthetic is anchored by a striking backdrop of mirroring ceramic tiles that cover the walls and ceilings of the entire store, in addition to staircases, and it's paired with carpeting in various gradations of blue.

On the second floor, shoppers are in for an artistic treat by way of a creativity caravan of sorts, a collaborative design by Risso and London-based practices Wilson Brothers and Brinkworth. This in-house pavilion is to host a continuous rotation of showcases by different artists and creatives.
